Black Cockatoo

This feathered beauty doesn’t need to shout to be noticed. With deep, inky plumage and that signature yellow cheek, the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo has a quiet magnetism that I wanted to capture up close. The soft lilac background lets its subtle colours do the talking, and every brushstroke aims to show off the layered texture of this stunning bird.

After exhibiting Shared Spaces earlier this year at Rusten House Gallery, a few of my favourite works have returned home to the studio. 

Shared Spaces: The Wildlife Next Door highlights the native birds and animals that quietly visit our gardens, perch on fences, or pass through the bush at the edge of town. These encounters remind us that we are not separate from nature — we share our spaces with it.

Through this series of acrylic paintings on canvas, I hope to spark a sense of wonder and awareness about the wildlife just outside our doors, and encourage a culture of care and curiosity in the next generation.
